Hey. I just installed the latest Web Wiz Forum and I keep getting a page error whenever posting/replying to a topic.

Here's wat happens.
The page loads fine with no problems...but as soon as the mouse is moved over the Message input field the little icon and sentence saying "Error on page" appears in the panel @ the bottom left of IE.

I doubled click on that, and this is the error details:

Line: 183
Char: 1
Error: Object Expected
Code: 0
URL: http://aa.1asphost.com/suckerpunchnz/forum/post_message_form.asp?FID=2 - http://aa.1asphost.com/suckerpunchnz/forum/post_message_form .asp?FID=2

Something related to this error (i think) is, I am unable to click on the formatting buttons. Eg. I can't Justify text, make text bold, or add smilies. etc.

Is anybody able to help with this error problem please?
Thanks very much.

Philip.

When using Free ASP hosts, many Javascript functions will break because of the footer banner adds such hosts add.  THe error you are getting is a Javascript error, and almost certainly related to this.

PS.  Isn't the weather great at the moment

Certainly is.

Do you or anybody else know of a way to solve this problem or have any advice to help fix it?

I also have this weird phenominum, where all these members are appearing online (in the forum stats)....but I only have 2 members registered, not 5.

That could be guests who arnt registered or search robots...

But it comes up as if they were registered users not guests, with screen names and all.  Then when you click on them to view there profiles it says "Sorry no profile can be found for this user".

hmmmmmmmmm.................

Certain functions will not run on free web hosts due to the way they now run.

I'm in the middle of writing new install instructions for placing the forum on free web hosts.

On free web hosts you will need to disable the following features in order for the forum to run:-

  1. WYSIWYG (RTE) Post Editor - The adds that free web hosts inject into pages prevent this feature from running
  2. All email features - Free web hosts don't generally have email components installed and/or disabled with their free accounts
  3. Active Users List - Your site will be sharing server resources with other sites this prevents this feature from running correctly

Great thanks for that

I have disabled all of those features, and it looks like it has solved a few problems.

Although, the 'Error on Page' javascript problem still seems to be occuring.
With the features disabled (the 1's you stated), the mouse pointer now changes to the hand thingy (like its suppose to - it didn't b4) when putting the pointer over the formatting icons...but they still do not work.

Is there anything else that can be done to solve this problem?

If it helps visit http://aa.1asphost.com/suckerpunchnz/forum/ - http://aa.1asphost.com/suckerpunchnz/forum/
to view whats happening.

Thanks guys for ya help.

I had a look into what might be coursing the problem and it looks like your web host is injecting an add into the javascript file:-

message_form_js.asp

This is coursing all the javascript in that file from running. I'm afraid that there is no way to prevent this as the file needs a .asp extension and it looks like your web host injects adds into any page with that extension.

I'm afraid that the only solution to this is to change web host and pay for a hosting account.
