My gut reaction is "reinstall IE".

I've seen some pretty wierd things, and they were solved by 1 of 2 things: reinstalling IE or Windows completely.

But I'm sure there is a registry setting that could solve your problem. Just a matter of finding it...

I hope that kind of helps.

If reinstalling IE don’t work. Try instating a download manager like GoZilla. This will not fix the fault but go round it by taking over all downloads and letting you select the download folder ect,

No need to go into all that.

Somewhere along the line, you checked the option not to ask you that question again. You just need to reset the option.

  1. Click on "My Computer"
  2. Go to Tools|Folder Options|File Types
  3. Select the file extension you're having a problem with (e.g. .zip)
  4. Click the "Advanced Button"
  5. Make sure "Confirm Open After Download" is checked.
