Guys

Ive jumped in the deep end and have been asked to do a nice little website for a Holiday Villa.

I need to represent what weeks are booked preferably as a calander view, and needs to be populated by some sort of txt file.

ie - someone books a holiday and a file is edited to show that week as booked

Any ideas - Im really open to anything

PS - Ive only got very basic web page skills - I did say ive jumped in the deepend

thanks

Si

The only one I know of that may do is form this link but is uses a database to work. Maybe someone here may know more.

I'm going to go with Bolt on this. Go for a database approach.

You DON'T want to get into programming against text files if you are doing web development. That would be better left to the C programmers. (Well, other languages can do the same, but C is just well known...)

Data access against text files is slow. VERY SLOW. Databases are meant for fast access to information.

You cannot program in a web language for speed. Web languages are slow. For a commercial application, you need something more. It can be done on the web, but not in a 'web language'.

But you could do it in ASP.NET with DLLs doing the major work for you.

I like the idea of a simple database approach - thanks guys

someone also suggested Flash with each day having 2 states, apparently it would read from a text file and change the colour  - not bad if you know flash.

Any other suggestion or ready made scripts still welcome

You have hit it on the nail, a data base is your best option. I have done automated sites using text files to update them but this slows things down. The download link I have provided gives you a free calendar download. It may not be the best but its not bad. Go to this link to see what it looks like.
