Quick Question for the gurus...

I am developing a site in ASP and I have a small obstacle I am trying to negotiate.  The person who will use the site isn't exactly computer savvy so I am trying to make it as idiot proof as possible.

He wants to upload images regularly to the site and he wants each image to have a small version and when clicked on a larger version of the image - simple enough.

Ok here is where it gets tricky.  Without uploading 2 images how is it possible for me to change the image so that it displays quickly (there will be a list of these images so speed is important) in the small image and then with enough clarity in the large image???

Please help me as I am going quietly INSANE!

I may be incorrect but the only way to speed up is to have two sets of images, Thumb nails and Main images. You can re-size the main images (SAME FILE) on the page as thumb nails but the size of the file loading has not changed so the speed at loading will be the same as loading the main images.

You can get asp components (aspjpeg is one of the best) that auto scale images into thumbnails for you, I have an example of what it can do on http://www.drum-world.com - www.drum-world.com (look in the top left).

That component don't actually resize the images on the server so I don't think it reduces the size (might be wrong). When the page loads I get the large images and then they're resized just like if you do it with javascript.

Hi Guys,

I really appreciate your help.  Does anyone know if ASPIMAGE does the job?

Fernan, it does reduce them, if you right click on you will notice its reduced from over 200k to 2k

here is an example of http://www.aspjpeg.com - ASPJpeg

http://www.kia-motors.info/E-Default.asp?zPage=News&Gallery=Kia - http://www.kia-motors.info/E-Default.asp?zPage=News&Gall ery=Kia

it decompresses the picture size and dimensions.
