I receive this error message when I try the "forgot password" functionality.

error '8004020e'

/forums/functions/functions_send_mail.asp, line 137

Here is my configuration:

WWF version 7.1
OS Windows Server 2003
SQL Server 2000 (SP3)
Email Component CDOSYS

Email Configuration Options Selected:

Email Notify - Works
Send Post with Email notification - Works
Email Activation of Membership - Works
Built in email client - Works

All users have valid email address because email registration was turned on at the start.  I have been though a lot of the posts and have not yet found one addressing this specifically.  Thanks in advance for you support on this issue.

The same function is used to send the mail on this page as all the other pages so exactly the same code is used.

Try searching Google, or MSDN to see if you can find anything on there about the error.

Also check your SMTP server settings.

I did a search on the error code, but there was only one in english which seems to address the problem.  I had already tried setting the relay information, because of a post on this forum by another user.  I assume that if the other email functions are working that the server settings are correct.  I understand that the other email functions use the same code, but could they populate the variables differently?  I.E. use a different sender which might cause problems connecting to the SMTP server.

I've recently moved my Forum to Windows Server 2003 and changed the email config. from CDONTS to CDOSYS as this is the default for the new server.

All of my email functions stopped working and the only way I could get them to work again was to install CDONTS on the new server and change the email config back to that. It all works fine again now.

I'm using the Access 2000 version of WWF 7.7

I have found the problem!!!  Yeah the same code is being used for the email functionality.  However, the variable being passed to the function is different only for this case.  Instead of using the admin account name it is using the name of my forum which has a "," in the name.  Therefore, cdosys thinks it is a separator and the email address gets truncated.  So, I changed the name of my Forum to something that does not have a comma and it works like a charm.  I have not had any problems since.

NOTE:  cdosys expects a comma as the separate to multiple recepients and not a semicolon.  Man I wish I found this a while ago.  So, I think anyone else getting this error and running cdosys should check the format of their e-mail addresses or usernames.
