Subject: how big can an access db get ?

hi everyone,

im using an acess forum cos it was so easy to setup, but when i read the difference between the two forum databases it seems mysql will work better as a big forum.

why is this?, and how big could i safely allow my access forum to get, and what would i do if it got too big.?

thanks for the input :)

Pay attention!
It's not MySQL but SQL server that is it completly another type and kind of database.

SQL Server is surely an high performance db but it's not free so before using SQL Server version of wwf you may check if your hosting or housing plan provides support for this db.

Sorry, I read this passage...

Quote but when i read the difference between the two forum databases it seems mysql will work better as a big forum.

About the size Access 97 could reach a virtual size of 1Gb and Access from 2000 version a 2Gb size but I suggest to keep it under 15 Mb or elaborations will become to run slow.

thanks guys, actually i run two forums and am about to start another,

one i have is SQLdb  and the other is access, when i installed the access site later on, it was so easy for an idiot like me, my server does allow sql databases, but i like the ease of access for upgrading.

the new forum i am about to start i expect to get very very big becouse of the topic, will using an access forum be ok, or will i be shooting myself in the foot.

thanks again for any advice

If you believe it's goping to be a big forum then go for MS SQL from teh start as changing between the access and SQL server versions is not simple.

Access is a flat file and is designed more for small desktop applications and so can't handle the amount of data that MS SQL server can.
