How do you open an .art file? Someone sent me a copy of his logo in .art. I couldn't open it.

The .ART file is an AOL image file format. When you are going to save the file from the web, and it defaults to .ART, if you are using Microsoft's Internet Explorer, you can choose to save it as a .BMP file, then open it in the editor of your choice.

I tried doing what you told me to do. Unfortunately, it didn't work.

Well, .art files are created by AOL's browser.  AOL browser and IE are the only one's that can view it. Can you not even open it with IE?

Depending on what version of IE you are running, you may need to download an update to IE that enables .art viewing.  Check Windows Update to see if you haven't installed it.

I upgraded to IE6. I still cannot see the .art file. It will open in Internet Explorer. But the image won't show up. I tried saving it as .bmp. Does anyone have more ideas about how I might be able to see the image?

get AOL?

Actually, there's a plugin I believe...go to windows update.

On second thought...why don't you just get this person to send it to you in a more readable format?

This person got it off the Corbis' web site. I asked this person to send it to me via .jpg or .gif. He kept on sending me the .art file.

I cannot get AOL. I have cable modem and I am not interested in switching to AOL.

Well, this person is obviously using AOL to get the picture.  Tell him/her to go to the site through Internet Explorer, or to turn of image compression in AOL.  You really have no other options for this image.
