A few questions on admin of users and groups.

Can you pre-register a user and add the user to groups in one step?

Can there be hidden forums so that when a user or group has no access to that forum so they don't even see the link for that forum when logged in?

I am looking at setting up a site with over 300 users and need to setup private areas for many different groups.

Thanks

Petra

New usesr are put in the starting group that you designate, you can then move them if you wish.

You can register new users yourself from the admin area and select which group you want them in, but groups are created in a sepporate process.

Private forums can be made that other users can not see.

Thanks for the help, found out where to hide the forums.

One more question,

Can a user be in more than one group?

They can't but you can set permissions for individual members on forums as well as group and generic forum permissions.

Thanks for the reply,

This will be a major issue for choice of forum software. I like all the other aspects if Web Wiz though.

This would be a great wish list feature to be able to add users to more than one group.

Would this request be a major change to the code to add?

Thanks for your help.

I think there is a mod in the mods and add-onds forum that allows you to place a user in multiple groups.

Just found this thread and I have to agree that this model of a user only being able to be placed in one group does not conform to standard group functionality, indeed I have never seen it done this way and it appears to be rather restrictive.  I understand that granting a user multiple permissions can be achieved using the work around suggested, and will also go and have a look at the mod suggested, but this work-around is more cumbersome and complex than if you were able to add a user to more than one group.  I was also dissapointed to see this had not been addressed in 8.0.

Oh well.  Off to play with the mod...
