If I get a PDF of a contract scanned in with someones signature and date written on it, is that as good as an actual signature?

its not recommended to use, cus then the person who has "signed" it can come later and sue you and say he didnt and that you have just scanned his sig..

No, even faxed contracts are not valid.
If speed is a concern then accept the PDF with the promise that the real contract is in the mail.

if it wern't for that protection... you could cut and paste someone's signature onto a contract like this...
