It's would be good if we have a very simple address (username) book in PM.

Next to each inbox msg is "Add this user to address book" button. And when we write pm, next to the To box is "Address Book" button, click on it to show a popup with all the stored usernames and a button "Select" next to each one. Click on "Select" will put that username in the To box.

We can't keep more than 40 pm so it helps to store our friends' usernames.

That would be a nice feature.

There already is in version 7, when reading a PM you have an add buddy button, you also have a button with a magnefying search type icon next to the box to type the to username into, clicking this pops up a search box, all you have to do is type in the first few characters, hit serach and then select the correct user from the drop down box and click select.

You also have the search icon on the buddy list for adding new buddies to your buddy list.

Does it work if you type the last few letters of their username in the search box?

Not that you would but what I'm asking is, say if someone's username is *bigbob* and you search for bob will it find *bigbob* ???

No it seaches from the front, so for bigbob you could type big and it would find all usernames begining with big.
