Is there any way to convert a .BMP file to .Gif in Fireworks without affecting the picture quality? I have imported a .bmp file in a new Fireworks document. That is how I've been converting .bmp files to .Gif files. But the picture becomes blurred. Does anyone know a better way for me to accomplish this?

i know i can do that in photoshop with realitve ease, you should be able to do the same with free hand, as far as fireworks is concerned, i more or less just use that for easy creation of menus and slicing...
id try photoshop

if you want i can do it for you, just link the file

u can always try opening up the file in Windows Paint and saying "Save As" and then select a different file type

Some programs just do a lousey job of converting between some file formats. Paint soes a pretty fair jog of converting bmp's to gif or jpg.

I couldn't get Paint to keep the original colors. I think that Semikolon is right.

mattymatt79,

I didn't know that you could convert a .bmp file to a .gif file in Freehand. How do you do that? I don't have Photoshop.

Make sure that it is actually a GIF that you want (do you need GIF 89a? - animation?). PNG might be better for what you need as it delivers a lot of what makes GIF good while maintaining all the good things about JPEGs. Most browsers support PNG now.

GIF is good for screen shots and cartoon type images where colors are limited. JPEG is good for perceptual compression where there are lots of colors. PNG beats them both.
