I have just installled web Forums on my website and i use oneandone webhosts but i am unable to get the registration via email to work. I get no errors when it is submitted, but the email never arrives at its destination. I do want email notification and therefore i do not want to turn this facility off.

Can anyone help please????

there are loads of problems reported with the one and one web hosting..

if its possible, i think its recommended to change host..

do a search for one and one and 1 and 1 and similar things..

Also contact one and one about this issue, it maybe you have an incorrect setting or the SMTP server is having problems relaying on the mail.

But like semikolon says allot of people do have problems with one and one as a hosting company.

Has anyone actually solved email responds via oneandone out there, if so how?

oneandone are not too friendly at the best of times especially when over the phone.

i am with one and one and they are crap! i am moving ISP's and servers in the summertime.

I never got the e-mail ativation to work with one and one, nor the image uploading nor the e-mail notification, i suggest looking for another ISP cos with one and one you will get no where with them, i can assure you that now!!

You would expect that a company that prides itself on customer satisfaction and seeing that this is not a hugely technical issue to correct for any ISP that they would address these problems as it is loosing them current customers and even more damaging, obtaining a bad reputation throughout the Web community.

you would think so yes, but apparently not judging from the crap technical service i have received from them and many more to come, like you have experienced as well unfortunately!!

oh well, moving onto better things!!

I have the exact same issue. But everytime I contacted my host company, they said nothing wrong with their sever (they don't even seem to check), how can I point them to check their SMTP server?

Thanks.

No point in calling them a crap service with poor support when you're getting what you paid for. Personally, I can't see why people go with free hosting. Nothing but problems and you can get a windows account with MS Access for less than the price of a Big Mac, Fries, and a Coke each month.

one and one are quite expensive.

Allot of people on here have problems with them when trying to run the ASP applications from this site and the lack of support form them.

I would recommened that people stay well away from this company if you wish to run software from this site.

They are a German based company and one of the largest hosting companies in the world with servers located in Germany, but they also have a UK site selling to the UK and they are opening another in the US at the moment as well.

Beacuse there servers are in Germany many people have problems with the locale settings of the server being incorrect for there country and being set to German as well as the email problems mentioned here. Both of which effect the running of Web Wiz Forums.

Ouch! I retract my statement. You are definately not getting what you paid for.

Can  web wiz handle the domain name transfers from oneandone?

You would have to keep your domain names with your present supplier, or try using www.ukreg.com as they are extremly cheap for domain names and transfers.

  • You can merely edit the DNS Zone files for your domain to point the neccessary records (A and MX etc) at your new host.  This normally involves the current host editing the zone files.
  • If you dont have access to that, or onenone dont allow you to, then you can transfer your domain to any registrar world wide and then do it yourself.  Heck ... even I could do it  .... and is commonly referred to "transfer to another registrar".  If you let us know your domain name I can let U know who the current registrar is.
  • If you have the ability to edit your DNS details ... reduce the TTL value for your domain to something like 60seconds ... this will reduce the DNS caching for when you eventually transfer ... ie it stops your site being offline for 12-24 hours when you do change.
  • You then transfer your site to another host.  Once you are setup and ready to go, edit your DNS to the new host and change the TTL back to something like 86400 seconds.

Hope that helps.
