The news and journal are wonderful scripts with code that is easy to
understand (if you know asp) and modify. Being able to modify is a good
thing because a web designer may need to make changes or enhancements
to suit their needs. Since downloading and installing the news and
journal scripts, I have made numerous changes and enhancements suit my
needs. Although the news and journal scripts are similar to eachother,
there were differences as well. I wanted to make a list of the changes
and enhancements that I have made. Where journal had a comment counter, news did not. So I coded it in. Both journal and news did not have seperate color selectors for header background and header text. So I coded it in. Both journal and news only allowed for the admin to add items and for anyone to be able to reply. So I added an author table to the access file and made it possible for selected people to also add news items without the ability to delete the them. I also addeed menu form items to add the authors to the table. While both journal and news were able to handle graphics, the text will eigher appear above or below the image, so I added CSS statements to force the text to flow around the image. The problem with this is, the author is forced to open the standard html editor to add the <div class></div> statements around the <img> tag for it to work. I haven't found a way to code buttons on the editor to do it. I think these enhancements are great and I was wondering how possible it would be make it standard in the next versions of journal and news.  |
