Topic: Prob: Never Get Confirmation Reg Email Posted: 10 June 2003 at 8:58pm |
This newbie is out of ideas and wonder if someone can help, tried searching forums but looks like I'm only one with prob.
New users can register, but they never get the confirmation that verifies their email address. If I shut that requirement off whereas they don't require the confirmation email link, they can get on right away and post.
Should I re-upload one of the files? Or is there a setting I'm missing? If so, which one?
I'm using version 7.01 - CDONTS (NT4/Win2k). The major thing is that I didn't have a prob before, I have a horrible feeling I changed one of the settings to screw it up.
Any help is appreciated!

Okay, I've tried re-uploading a number of the asp files I just downloaded from this site again. Anything to do with reg email stuff, including:
functions_send_mail.aps
email_notify_configure.asp
email_notify.asp
I've got nada. I can manually allow them "active" status, but would really like to just have the email notify get sent out. Anyone have any suggestions???
I really think I must have hit some random button in the admin set-up area and just can't figure out how to undo it.

Bingo! ... I think!
Looks like I had too long folder names / etc. so that the full URL wouldn't fit in the field. Dang it. Will move files around tomorrow to get shorter URL for forum and try again.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll let ya know how it goes!

Okay, I shortened by URL and now all fits into field, however still not getting confirmation emails.
I have a sinking feeling it's because the URL doesn't start with http://www address, instead it's http://63. and rest of ip address. I don't want to switch mb to my main hoster, I have to keep it where it's at now.
Does anyone have any suggestions??

It could be a problem with the mail server not relaying on the emails, it could also be that your hosts doesn't allow emails to be sent to non local email addresses or they require some sort of authentication for emails.
I know of serveral large hosting companies that require either the 'from' or the 'to' email address to be a local pop box before there servers will relay on the email.
So my advise is to check with your hosting company of any settings that are required to use ther smtp servers.

I have a really bad feeling it's the URL that's the prob, not the smtp servers of host because when I did have mb at host & prop had happened it worked fine. When I switched almost everything to another server and propigation was finished is when I started having trouble. I dunno, I emailed host to see what they say just in case.
If that fails, I don't suppose anyone would know how the change the "Board Domain URL" setting within "Email Notisfication Setup" of admin section so that it accepts a URL that starts with ip address, not www address??

The board URL will not effect the sending of emails, as this is only used for links withon emails and so has no effect what so ever on the sending of emails.
Also it does work with IP addresses, I have used it before with IP addresses.
