Hey -borg- and everyone,

Glad to see WWG back online.

I have an interesting situation here. I have a very popular forum located at www.rexpage.com/myseq/forum which varies from 20-100 active users at all times. Yes, its running on Access to and very stable to kudos to -borg-. I know it will eventually need to go to SQL Server, but if it ain't broke then I ain't fixing it for now.

I also have just recently setup a forum for a friend at http://www.rexpage.com/tanarushacks but the odd thing is that the active users of the MySEQ forum show up on the Tanarus forum. They are separate databases, and I have verified everything in the code including re-uploading the forum. Also, you will notice on the Tanarus forum that the header graphic points to the MySEQ header graphic but again I have double-verified that the navigation_buttons_inc.asp is correct in the Tanarus forum.

I'm going to disable the stats for the Tanarus forum but want to figure out this problem before I do.

I'm absolutely stumped here. Anyone that can offer advice?

If both forums run in the same IIS application the Application Variables are shared, that is why one's active users may show up in another forum.

You would have to turn off the use of Application variables and Online Users.

You need to get your host to put the other forum in a differant application pool.

If you don't wish to turn off application variable on one of the forums, placing one or both the forums in a subdomain would sortout the problem as long as your sub domain ran in it's own application pool.

That makes sense. I had the host change the server to keep it from crashing and they must have modified the application pool settings I guess. Its odd that it doesn't affect my main forum at www.rexpage.com/forum.

Thanks for the advice guys.....

Hmm---I ended up setting the application variable setting to "false" in the common.asp.

Can anyone give me a brief "how to" on what that does?

To speed up the forum slightly so that things that remain the same throughout the forum don't need to be loaded in each time a page is viewed in the forum application level variables are used.

By storing things like the forum name and settings in application level variables it means that they remain the same and available to all users while the site is running. This way they only need to be loaded into memory once thus cutting down on the calls to the database.
