Having upgraded from v6 to v7 and having used the database migration tool it looks as if everything works with all existing posts and users visible. However, an error occurs on any new posts:

============================

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80040e21'

The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship. Change the data in the field or fields that contain duplicate data, remove the index, or redefine the index to permit duplicate entries and try again.

/forum7/post_message.asp, line 749

==================================

Any ideas? I'm assuming that there is something that I have forgotten to do

Before and after upgrading the databases coompact and repair both databases in access.

You can find this under the tools menu in access.

Problem Sorted

I tried compact & repair before and after conversion without success.  I then changed to the Access 2000 version and the problem went away.

Apparently my ISP's Access 2002 support is quite what it should be.

Thanks for the suggestions anyway

I had this same problem when upgrading because originally I installed the forum utilizing Access 2000 and I was trying to upgrade to Version 7.0 final utilizing Access 2002.  I toyed around for a while and then downloaded the Access 2000 version of the new forum and the site ran fine.

May or may not work for you, but it did for me.

It sounds like the post table just needs re-indexing. I haven't work with Access in a long so I'm not sure how to fix it exactly but the problem can be fixed and there is no need to start re-registering people.

You should however maintain a copy of your database before doing any conversion. Always mainatin a duplicate of the database.
