Hi.

I'm trying to lockdown some pages on my website based on the user logged into the forum.

basically I want it to see if the user is a guest on the forum and if so tell them they cant access the page.

If they are in the members group I want to allow access to the page.

I know this will need to be done through the userID or something but does anyoen have a quick solution for doign this before I trawl through and look into it all myself!!

Many Thanks

Kev

That's pretty much it. Restrict a topic to specific groups and move whomever you want into the groups.

dp,

You seem to have missed the point. I think Kev needs to check if the user is logged in to the forum before allowing them access to non-forum content.

(as do I, which is why I was watching this forum).

Kev, I noticed a possible mod in the mods forum that will do what we need, but I have not had chance to test it out yet.

See http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=843&am p;PN=1

yeah cheers mate I've looked at that mod but theres now two of us that cant get it working.

I was rather hoping that the userID would be stored as a server variable and it would then be dead easy to do...

Can anyone else help.......... Surely this has been done before!

Thanks

Kev

Have a look in the file common.asp, all the logining in stuff is done in there and just chop out the bits that you require.

Each line is commented to let you know what is going on to make it simpler to follow the code.

cheers I'll have a look.

I was starting to look at retreiving the GroupID value from the database based on the users username retreived from the Cookie.

Would this way work?

if it would then can you tell me what the cookie name is so I can retreive from it.

if not then I'll give up lol

Cheers

Kev

just had a look at the common file... looks like I might be able to chop that as you said.

I'll let you know if I fail miserably lol!

Cheers

Kev
