looking for further advice for an issue which appears to have started since the move of the forum from streamline to webwiz.

Currently users can post responses to topics and sometimes when they click on new posts their actual post indicates to themselves, as its in bold with (1 new post) next to it, that there is a new post on that topic. Additionally, users moving between posts at times get a correct view of what are new posts against topics, but then randomly it would appear, when they come out of a topic a load of topics which they have previously read indicate that there are new posts when there actually haven't been any new entries made in the topic.

I have changed the cookie id for the site, asked people to clear their cache, cookies and also to mark all as read and close their browser and reopen the browser. I have also tried using three different browsers safari, firefox and explorer, all producing the same issue.

Any ideas ?

Read/unread posts are just a guide and are not 100% accurate due to the way HTTP works.

not withstanding that the reporting accuracy of posts which were read unread was significantly greater prior to both moving the forum and also upgrading.

has there been a change with regards to tracking of read posts ?

certainly since the move there are alot of users who are posting this issue is 'real' where previously it was never an issue for users.

thats not to say that the issue is the forum code, it could be that the change has led to some quirk that has affected a number of users. just looking for some guidance.

in an effort to get a more accurate representation of this issue, i'll set up a poll to find out which users are now having issues compared to prior to the upgrade. if its a minority then it quite possibly could be users computer set ups. leave it with me

as part of this issue, i have also noticed that if I press the 'mark all posts as read' which then gets rid of all the highlighted unread topics, and then go to the top right and press new posts - the capture topics from a certain time/date on the left to show which topics, reverts to the selection 'yesterday'

When you use the 'Delete All Cookies' option it also removed the cookie for your last visit date used for read/unread posts. This means that the forum no longer has a last visit date and will therefore show posts from 'Yesterday' by default on the Latest Posts Page.

We do see time and time again that when forums are updated to a new major release that members will say things like, 'it's running slower',  'unread post notifications', 'auto logins not working', 'email notification not working', or anything else. The problem is that none of these things have changed between version 9 and version 10 but the people who complain tend to make allot or noise about this while most other stay quite, which tends to give a biased opinion that everyone is having issues, when in reality these things remain the same as they always have.

The unread/read post notification system has not been changed for version 10, and we have not heard of anyone else with an issue who hosts their forums with us and we do host many 1000's of Web Wiz Forums websites. I have also kept checking in with your forum myself and have not seen any issue with the read/unread post notification system.

I would suggest just leaving things and see if any members contact you in a few weeks, as for now as the code is not changed and your forum is optimised there is nothing we can do.
