    Posted: 04 March 2007 at 12:30pm

I have a problem with sending mass emails within my forum...a number of old members who no longer visit, also no longer use their email accounts assigned to their login.  This means I receive hundreds of 'failure notices' after sending out a mass mail.

Is there anyway of changing these email addresses to a false email address, which mass mail will ignore, and won't attempt to send to it.  This means less email traffic, and no bounces back to me.

Anyone have any ideas?

I suppose the other option would be to change the email addresses to my own, but this would generate un-needed email traffic.

How do other people get over this problem / annoyance?  ...I don't want to delete the accounts, due to posts / topics created by these users.

i think it must be a feedback to define theese email adresses, likes activation account.
for example you can send a email confitmation mail to all users and give a specific time to click confirmation link at this mail. after the time ends if some users didnt send feedback value, you can use a code for clear those users' email value (not deleting users). if their email value empity the mass mail doesnt try to send posts to them...

Oli, could you amend the mass emailer to only send to active accounts and make sure these ones with old accounts/addresses are set to be non-active?

Roger, that sounds like a good idea!

I'll have a look at the code and see what I can find.  Would have thought it would be easy to implement, as there's already code in place to send to specific groups only.

Cheers dude, I'll keep you posted!

LOL.. If it helps I can feel your pain.

After sending a mass email to my entire memberbase recently, I got 1700 bouncebacks to my own email address (via a re-direct for the Admininstrator emails addy).

Absolute ball breaker!

And it's not just the first thousand emails, as some mail servers keep trying X amount of times...

Anyone interested in developing this mod?
