Im getting hammered with sweatshop spammers going around captcha etc and registering.  I have turned on manual user activation, so I get an activation email for each new user.

Can you please point me at the code that generates the "new member activation" email message?  I cant seem to find it.  I would like to try to change the link included in the email message to point at
http://forumdomain/forum/register.asp?FPN=0&PF=PROFILENUMBER&M=A
instead of pointing directly at the member activation page.  I want to look at the prospective member's registration info before deciding to activate, and this would alleviate having to click through several pages to get the member's profile details by providing the correct link right in the email message.

If there is an easier way to do this (I usually try to skin the cat starting at the wrong end!!), please advise.

TIA!

All text is held in the files in the language_files folder. Seach through these files for the text you want to modify.

The page below gives you lots of info on how to prevent spammers:-

http://www.webwiz.net/webwizforums/kb/spam_prevention.asp

The best way that I find is to have email activation enabled and then also have the forum setup so that the new members group needs to have their posts approved by an admin or moderator before they are display in the forum. Once trhe new member reaches x amount of posts they move up to a new ladder group which does not have the post approval feature enabled.

I modified the registration.asp as follows:
Modified line 1047 to add "& _" at end:
vbCrLf & vbCrLf & strForumPath & "admin_activate.asp?USD=" & lngUserProfileID & _
Added following lines after 1047:
vbCrLf & vbCrLf & "To view the domain info for the registrants IP address, click here: " & _
vbCrLf & "http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ipall?ip=" & getIP() & _
vbCrLf & vbCrLf & "To view details of the new registrant *before* approving, click here:" & _
vbCrLf & strForumPath & "register.asp?FPN=0" & chr(38) & "PF=" & lngUserProfileID & chr(38) & "M=A"
This produces an email to the "forum" email address that contains the original activation link, but also contains a link to the user's IP address on DSNStuff, and also a link to view the registration details of the newly registered user.  This gives the admin two quick links to consider more info about the user instead of just a link to activate.

I do not wish to violate the license, and I am only trying to be constructive and helpful to other admins who may be struggling with the same issues that I am wrestling.  If I have gone about suggesting this modification improperly, please advise and I will attempt to comply.
