Hiya

You have done what I did and installed the wrong version Cry
You probably needed version SQL Server 2000 version

and maybe Bruce needs to verify that there is a big difference between the two versions of software inasmuch as one cannot be run unless your host has that capability built in

There isn't many other ways to put it on the download page. You need to download the database version for the type and version of database that you are using.

Quite a number of web hosts unfortunately still run SQL Server 2000 which is no where near as good as SQL Server 2005 or 2008.

The performance difference with Web Wiz Forums is massive with the SQL Server 2005/2008 version as it can easily cope with forums with millions of posts, compared with the SQL Server 2000 version which is limited to showing the first 5000 Topics only on larger forums.

If your web host doesn't give you SQL Server 2005 or 2008 then our own web hosting from Web Wiz does includes SQL Server 2005 databases from as little as $7 per month, with Web Wiz Forums Premium Edition included, installed, and updated for free. For more info see www.webwiz.net/webhosting

We should also be offering SQL Server 2008 in the next couple of months as we have just received the media kits from Microsoft who released it only last month and we are presently putting it through it's paces in our lab.

Thanks guys, I'll try installing the SQL server 2000 version.

What we are doing at the minute is developing the forum on our local development server which has SQL server 2000 installed. But our hosts have SQL srver 2005 installed. Do you know if this would cause any issues when we make the forum live?

Regards

Wayne.

No it won't do. All you need to do on the live one on SQL Server 2005 is enabling the paging variable to true in the database/database_connection.asp file to improve the performance.

You may want to also look at download the free SQL Server 2005 Express for testing on your local development server.

Thanks for your help. I installed the SQL server 2000 version and the forum works now.

I'll have a look at installing SQL Server 2005 Express on our dev server.

Thanks again

Wayne.
