I am attempting to make my RTE editor XHTML Transitional compatible or as close as possible to it..
 
I have a couple problems:
  1. When the return is key pressed, a <div> tag is produced. According to the Transitional guidelines, it needs an id. How could I go about producing a unique id for each tag?
  2. My other problem is that the tags are rendered in upper case, while the guideline states lowercase, how can I change such?

Help would be very gratefully accepted.

It's the browsers own built in RTE API that produces the HTML code, so until the browser is updated to produce better HTML you are stuck with what you get.

IE produces very bad HTML code, where as Firefox produces much cleaner HTML.

Hopefully Microsoft will have sorted out this problem and maybe even made it XHTML compliant with IE 7, but I've not had chance to test IE 7 yet to see what if any improvements MS have made in the RTE API within IE.
