Occasionally, our forums (http://www.allempires.com/forum/) hosted on Brinkster has this error in which asp files stop running for a few minutes and then "Service Unavailable" shows up before reverting back to normal. We've had this problem since right after the forum was installed several months ago and we haven't been able to solve it. I think it's probably due to some loops created in the code, but neither the other admin nor I have been able to track down anything.

Any ideas would be appreciated! Wink

this is not a problem with the code, as it is written to a very, very good standard.

the error you are saying is a server issue, most of the time because there are to many connections etc to the server, i must stress this would not be a application flaw.

this is a issue because of brinkster. they either have so many clients on the server and inturn to many connections.

I have the same problem too. I created my forum about 2 months ago and every day I had service unavailable problem for an hour at least. I contact with my server and they said there is a coding problem. But if that's a coding problem how can page works most of the day and doen't open for a period of time? What do you suggest?

that error is not a code error, it is a server error,

who are you with?

also does the site get alot of hits at once, are you on a shared server, because it might be the server as said above is getting to many connections.

On these cheap hosts (especially Brinkster) the WWF database often gets locked without any specific reason, leaving your site unavailable. We had this with only one user online and also with 30 users online. It happened twice a day or once a week, no system there.

The explanation these hosts will always give is 'that is a problem with the code'. Absolutely wrong. It is their problem and they will not ever care to solve it.

Change your host.

It may be a problem with code, but not with your code. On shared hosting, there are tools and techniques for server admins to id users who are eating up resources - e.g. access, etc.

Either your host doesn't have the tools or the technical expertise to use them.

IMHO, Brinkster seems to attract newbie developers who are more likely to make errors that affect others.

Lead me not into temptation... I know the short cut, follow me.
