XP Home DOES NOT SUPPORT IIS.

This has been asked before and is posted on hundreds of other websites.

Check out www.google.com if you dont believe me.

There's a couple of hacks on some of the xp sites for installing iis but it's difficult and error prone - registry hacks, etc..
Seems to hose up a lot of systems and the biggest problem is getting a copy of iis that isn't infested with spyware.

I think you're better off to get the xp pro upgrade.

Some early versions of Front Page came with PWS - personal web server. Supported html and asp, but I think it was asp 2.0. WWF needs asp 3.0

well xp home is supposedly exactly the same as xp pro, but with a couple of things changed around in the registry... that is, if you have one of the earlier versions before microsoft 'fixed' xp home so it was in fact different...

XP Pro also has some additional networking utilities but basically home and pro have the same code base and kernal.

XP home really sucks though. My wife had a laptop with Mediacenter 2004 on it and it was based upon XP Pro so it had IIS. She got a new laptop this year with Media Center 2005 on it and now it is based upon XP Home so no iis.

I think Home came without IIS as a security precaution. To many people would have had anonymous ftp running, not to mention having a mail server available for the hackers looking for zombie machines.

then there's the fact that ms loves their 'base' version and the 'advanced' (see: working) version, where stupd people who don't know better (or smart people who know nothing of computers) buy the base version, then pay twice the difference to upgrade to the advanced version when they realise they need something that the base version can't do...

windows xp, xbox360... Wink

the truth is out there... LOL

then again, its fair enough to base mc on home, since, well, why would you need a web server for a media center?
