I don't think divs are harder to manage, but admittedly it took a while originally to ween myself off tabled design, it is very out of date now. Divs just take a bit of practise and you need to look at a page in a slightly different way. Divs do come with a host of benefits as well (their fluidity is very nice to work with once you get the knack!). Once you go div you never go back!
Having said that, tables do still have their place. I believe they should be used for their semantic purpose which is to display table data. For example tables of results, leagues, things like that.

Also in terms of employability if you go for a web development job interview and they ask you to do a quick template to show your skills, doing a table based design is a good way to not get the job!
