I am using webwiz forum, and it has built up over the past months. However, now it takes forever to post a topic or reply to a topic. In fact it times out. But when I open a new session, my post is there. I tried to compact and repair the database, but I get an error. Is there a way to improve the speed and eleiminate the tiemm out problrems?
Thanks in advance

This will be an email/SMTP server problem rather than a database issue.

The delay will be coursed by either the amount of email notifications that are needed to be sent and/or the amount of time it takes to connect to the SMTP server to send the email notifications.

If you can one way to speed things up is to use a 'localhost' SMTP server.

If you can do this it maybe worth deleting all the entries in the file tblEmailNotify in the database or disabling the email notifying system, till you find a faster SMTP server.

WHat you mean is that instead of typing in the actual SMTP address, I simply type in "localhost" even though it is not my actual mail server, it will work?

Not quite.

If you can install and use a 'localhost' SMTP server, this would speed things up as you won't have to use a busy network to connect across when sending emails.
