Not to hard really.
Create a new tblThanks table with Author_ID, Thread_ID. A simple link that someone can click that records both fields and redirects back to the topic. Then a simple getRows once and a check for a "thanks" record in the topic.asp file. Shouldn't be more than 50 lines of code.
