I was browsing my windows xp cd (OEM.) This is a completely legal copy of windows xp. I also use the valid key that came with the oem copy. However in a text file which I will not name I found a cd key which is not mine.  As this CD key is 100% legal and I have never seen this cd in my life I wondered why it was there. The key in question is not a valid key yet a google search for the key said it was a XP professional retail cd key?

Sometimes an OEM like dell, gateway, compaq, etc. will include another valid Corporate edition OEM key on the CD in case there's problems with registration, re-registering after hardware changes, etc.

Lead me not into temptation... I know the short cut, follow me.

Weird. I have a "normal" OEM CD as my computer was put together my some small shop.

The key was in the unattent.txt file which is the example unattened install not one that has actually been created to be used.
