Topic: WWF v7.0 Beta 4 (A few issues) Posted: 25 March 2003 at 3:32am |
|
The 1st issue that I have with this beta is that registered users are able to report their own post using the "Report Post" link. I think it is unnecessary to be able to report your own post; this feature may be used to gain the Administrators attention rather than use it for its intended purpose.
The 2nd issue that I have with this beta is that people are able to use the "E-mail Topic" to send mail anonymously using CDONTS mail component on your server or the server that hosts your forum.
When you are not logged in that option is not available but you can switch to the main forum and log off, switch back to the pop-up window and refresh. Your username will change to "Guest". In conclusion: Guests should not be allowed to use that feature (checking the username in the cookie and preventing guest access would work) and "Your Name*" field should be un-editable.
Note: This is not an "I need help" post but a suggestion post to Borg, I know how I can fix these issues on my own but would rather see them fixed for the final release of the forum.
-Thanks

This is somthing that I could see spamers taking advantige of. It might even be posable to make a script that would do it in bulk if they knew the url

Yes, I agree with the Vdub re spammers (item 2 of original post).
Re Item 1, sorry but disagree. Posters may require all traces of their original post to be removed for a variety of reasons, stupidity being just one of them.

Hope this helps

Why would you ever want your own post removed? If there is a legit reason for wanting your post removed I would assume this would happen very rarely, so rarely in fact that you can personally PM the Admin w/o having an option to report your own post.

Eaglesexec and Vdub: Both of your excuses are illegitimate.
In WWF v7.0 there is no time limit on post editing. There is also an option that the admin can enable which will allow the user to delete his own post.
Like I said before and I'll say it again: There is no need for the poster to be able to report his/her own post!

lol. i think your excuse is illegitimate. my REASONS are more than legitimate.
i dont allow editing at all in some forums. i do not want to allows users to delete their own posts because i have had bad experiences with that one. i have been burned badly. what do i do in this case? if they were not able to report their own posts? think about it. (assuming of course they cant contact me by pm since maybe they are in my ignore list and they dont know my email address).
