Maybe there could be something on the admin page that tells the user about an upgrade without actually visiting WWG.
Personally I think the forum should lockup with a security warning if there is an upgrade. That way the user will have to either unlock the forum or upgrade.
It means that newbies understand how important it is.

There is already a feature in the admin area on the main page that is for checking for upgrades.

Cliecking the link will take you to a page on this site that tells you your version and what the latest version is.

It would be a cool feature if the forum checked for updates on session start or something and if one was found send an automated PM to the admin reminding him to update

If they made an RSS feed for Security updates, that could be possible with XML reading.

Yes, XML may be used or simply XMLHTTP object that may read a file stored on wwf server with version info.

yes that would work but think about -boRg- he would have xx megabyptes a month used from remote stes. the only way i can see him doing that is to make a fee payable for it.
