well what it says is that its supposed to be a bit more than MSDE 2000 Engine with more advanced features. This time its also targetted towards low end developers as well as users running not so hifi applications. With limitations of 1GB ram and 1CPU (HT is counted as 1CPU still) ,4GB max DB size and no workload governer; M$ is really being generous. Well is this generosity targeted honestly towards offering more to end users or a harder punch to ward away developers from the competitive and free MySQL??

Web Wiz Forums runs fine on MSDE and SQL 2005 Express versions.

As web sites use ADO to connect to the SQL database the restrictions don't prevent Web Wiz Forums form running as fast on thses version as the full blown version.

This site even runs on MSDE 2000 without any difficulties. The only reason why I'm not using SQL 2005 Express is the restictions MS have on moving SQL 2005 databases makes it more difficult to backup the database.
