Hello everyone,
I have a quick question about a new installation.
I've followed the documentation regarding the installation, and things seemed to go well.
1. The tables were created correctly, I was able to see them within the database.
2. I was able to login the first time using the administrator login, and was able to change the password.
The problem I'm having is that when I click on the Admin link, it requests the login information again, which seems to be a new feature. This is no problem, but when go through the process, I get "Web Wiz Forums: Access Denied" "Sorry, Only members with sufficient permission can access this page."
Sorry to repost this. I've notice that others have encountered the error message, but I didn't see a complete response. Someone mentioned that cookie settings could be the culprit, but I'd assume the initial login process would not have happened.
Does anyone know what the solution is to this problem? Is it because there are no forums created by the initial install?

It sounds like that for some reason your site/server is dropping the ASP session.
The latest 7.97 version requires the ASP session for both the CAPTCHA image checking and to keep you logged in for the admin area.
If for some reason the ASP session is dropped you will get the error you mention.
Things that prevent the ASP sesison from working include, ASP files on your site using 'session.abandon' or server issues, such as:-
The servers app pool is recyling all the time
Multiple load balanced web servers
Using Windows 2003 Web Farm in the app pool
Not having the latest hotfixes on Windows 2003 (when it was released there where issues with ASP sessions)

Thanks for your quick response, you've been a great help..... I've been trying to make progress on this and look into your suggestions, but I'm still stuck.
What you say about the ASP session getting reset, makes sense, but I'm still not clear what's resetting the connection....
This webserver runs sever sites that do not use ASP session state. There would be no Session.Abandon's getting called, unless you think an ASP page containing sessionstateenabled = false is doing it.
1. I'm running Windows 2003 Server SP1 single server. I could not find the specific hotfix you mentioned, but I imagine it has been included in SP1, if not could you possibly send a KB link?
2. I'm not running Load Balancing.
3. I'm not running WebFarm or Web Gardens.
4. I did create a separate application pool for web wiz, rather than using the default application pool. I turned off the recycling but it has no effect. I still encountered same problem.
5. As a secondary experiment installed Web Wiz, to a server that has no current websites. I had mixed luck. It seemed to let me in the admin page, but then as soon as I tried to do something like create a forum, I got the familiar access denied message.

Have you tried with a different browser and/or PC?
in case it is your browser that is coursing the issue, or some AV, ad-block, script block, firewall, etc. software that is coursing the issue.

Yes, I tried 3 machines, a couple browser variations.
Two machines running IE 6.0.2900.2180, also one of those machines I tested under FireFox v1.5
On another machine I tried IE 6.0.3790.1830.
In all cases the security is set to medium. The browser is succesfully accepting cookies.
I don't doubt that this is coming from the server side, but having checked several of the things you mentioned, I'm somewhat stuck.

What about Firewall, AV, script blocking, etc. software running on those machines, as they can often course issues.

I have axacly the same problem. My ISP find the servers app pool is
recyling all the time, but can't fint out where and why. No other
application is running sessions on our site, so using sessions have to
be within the forum.
Also the members can no longer upload any files to the forum. I have
read somewhere else in this forum this can be set up in the admin
module, and that every member has to be set to upload files or not.
Is there a way to set this directly in the database, since I can't get into the admin section?
PLEASE HELP! We are losing members and topics while these limits are on..

well this happens to me sometimes too i found that i sometimes doent use capitals were it is need for the captcha  kinda of a silly mistake but its a possibility it happens to you also.
