    Posted: 01 March 2006 at 10:13am
Hi

Is there any way to turn off the stored procedures in version 7.97 and use straight SQL statements. The reason for this is because the server that we are trying to run it on does some really strange things with stored procedures.

Thanks
DM

There is not a way to do this in version 7.x, but in version 8 stored procedures have been dropped as in performance tests they didn't offer any noticeable performance advantage.

Also, but not using stored procedures more SQL queries can be created on the fly allowing more powerful and configurable options for users.

Hi Borg

Thanks for the reply, I suppose the only obviouse question is now one of when are we likely to see the version 8? As I woudl really like to use this forum, but can't use SPs in SQL, so I guess I'm just gonna have to wait.

Thanks

Version 8 beta 2 was released for testing yesterday.

So far either beta 2 is quite stable or people are not yet reporting errors.

If beta 2 proves to be quite stable I hope to have the full version out by this Easter.

Hi Borg

Thanks appreciate it. If I may ask is there a list somewhere of extras that you are planing to add to the the forum? I have seen the list of items that you have added to Beta2, but do you have a list somewhere of extras that you plan to implement?

Thanks

Excellent.

Thank you good sir, I look forward to version 8, in the mean time, I will attempt to get 7.97 working with SPs. So that I can get a demo version of my site up and running.

Thanks

You need to configure your user account on the SQL Server to be a member of the DBO group so that you can run stored procedures found in Web Wiz Forums.
