    Posted: 09 March 2006 at 4:47pm

Hello,

Sometimes I receive the following error when optimizing a PDF file:

"The PDF contained image masks that were not downsampled."

As a result, the file size reminds the same.  How do I go about reducing the file size when this error occurs?  Is there a setting in Acrobat that takes care of this?  Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

RCorr

I searched for you but I couldn't find an answer.

Are you trying to reduce the filesize of a PDF made in Acrobat 6 in Acrobat 7?

Thank you for looking huwnet.

I am using Acrobat 7 to reduce the file size.  Some of the files I am trying to optimize I do know what program they were created in - Word, Illustrator, etc.  I only have the pdf version.

In addition, if my pdfs were created in another application I do not know if cutePDF, PDF995, Acrobat 6 or 7 was use to create the pdf version.

Unfortunately I don't have a copy of Acrobat so I can't really help you much more.

However there are some open source apps (cant remember the names) which can convert PDF > doc.

If you can convert PDF > doc the same tool can convert them back.

Might help

Post a copy (or email it to me) and I'll take a look at it if it doesn't contain private information. Sometimes you can run the PDF back through Distiller to get around those errors.

BTW, PDFCreator is my personal favorite free / open source app for creating PDF's if you don't have Acrobat Pro.
