Topic: Upgrading to V.8 for Dummies? Posted: 27 April 2006 at 5:05am |
Can someone please give me ABC instructions on how to upgrade from 7.7a to 8 (access 2000) without losing all of my old posts, users, etc... I work in Frontpage and I already purchased the link removal key way back in 2003. Sorry for the newbie question, but thanks for any help.

1. Download version 8.01 2. Download the database upgrade tool from the download page 3. Backup your version 7.x database 4. Remove the version 7.x files from the server 5. Follow the database upgrade tool instructions that come with the tool 6. Once the database upgrade is complete upload version 8 to the server, you may need to update the 'database/database_connection.asp' file with the details or path to your forums upgraded database.

I take it this is when using the upgrade tool?
The message suggests that the path to your database is incorrect.
probably the simplest way to do this so you know the path to your database is correct is place the upgrade tool and your access database in the same folder, then just enter the name of the Access database only, as you won't need a path as it will be in the same directory.

The errors are in a language that I can not read, so it's hard to tell what the exact problem is, but for some reason, it looks like the tables in your database can not be modified to make them compatible with version 8.
It could be a permissions issue, or you have modified the database yourself, again not being able to read the error message it's hard to tell.
Make sure you have permission to modify the database tables and you haven't modified or customised the database yourself.
