I am currently running WWF 7.92 on SQL 2000.

I want to run it on SQL 2005.

1.  Will it run just like that if I have a backup of this db on SQL2000 and port it to 2005?

2.  I want to run WWF 8.01 on it also.

3.  What should I do first?

I am new to SQL2005.

thanks for any help I can get!  LOL

You can just use the import/export DTS tools in SQL Server Management console to move the database straight from SQL Server 2000 to the 2005 version. You don't need to make any other changes. Except maybe update the database connection details in the forum.

You can update your forum to version 8.01 either before or after you move the database to 2005, it makes no difference in this case.

We are going to be doing the same thing.

Do you see any problems if we use the Backup and Restore method to transfer the data (i.e. backup from SQL 2000 and restore to SQL 2005 Express)?  We have no access to the DTS.

Thanks.

I have made many moving and importing and reimporting and backing up my portal db (based on wwf)... from and to SQL2005 and SQL2000... more or less everything was doing well... the transfers (where you must be cautious at import settings otherwise it is not working), the backups, the upsizing... the works - the only thing that I have to add from personal experience (which is quite extensive) - BE CAUTIOUS with those settings. If you are, you have "almost" nothing to worry about...

Oh - and a note for SQL2005 users from up-sizing - the db is NOT (at least mine was not) fully optimized for the new system - it tends to get slower on SQL2005 then SQL2000 - that IS a fact from many testings hours...
