Hello all. I've already searched (and not found) this error on the forums and on google.  :)

The editor is installed and operating, but when any of the File Operations (Open / Save) are used, this is the error message.

Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a0400'

Expected statement
/rte/RTE_popup_open_file.asp, line 2

Option Explicit
^

Other than that - the editor is running.  The only close match that I could find in the forums is this, and it's not the problem I'm having...

BTW, this is on an IIS/NT4.0 server (Yea, I know - it's 2006!!!) but there are other things on this server that NEED this exact setup as it is.  :)

Thanx

The Option Explicit line can be removed without coursing any problems.

Well, that changes the error message, but doesn't make the file operations work. :)

Response object error 'ASP 0156 : 80004005'
Header Error
/rte/RTE_popup_open_file.asp, line 57
The HTTP headers are already written to the client browser. Any HTTP header modifications must be made before writing page content.

Line 57 should just be a comment, so either you have a corrupted file or you have modified the file in some way.

It may also be as well you are using NT4, which only supported up to ASP 2.0 and not ASP 3.0.

I would try and get your NT4 box upgraded as NT4 really sucked as far as the IIS web server as it was always crashing. Windows 2003 server and IIS 6 are much more stable and easier to configure.

OK, thanx.  I thought the FAQ said that ASP2 was all that was required?

As for the line 57 error - that's only after removing the Option Explicit line, so I'm guessing that would be originally line 58.  Nontheless - I just did a fresh install (at www.inet2000.com/rte) with unmodified pages and I still get the original RTE_popup_open_file.asp error.

And yes, I know NT4 is ancient.  This particular box and the sites on it have some very specific features that I'm not sure can be moved.  We're actually the hosting company and do most of our stuff on Linux and IIS6, but have this one old box that the customers don't want to move off.  A ''not broke, don't fix'' deal.  :)  Of course, the other side of this is also true... when we need to do something to the old NT box, it's been weeks since we've looked at it and it's getting hard to remember sometimes how it operates! :)

Are there any file permissions that need to be set?  I'm thinking not, since the asp's work and the editor, except for the file operations.

Thanx for any help.

In theory it would work on NT4 as everything used in it is ASP 2.0, but I've not come across an NT4 box for about 4 years now to be able to test this theory.

You only need to change file permissions if you are using the upload components to upload files.

Option Explicit is used in all the files and just tells the server that a stricter coding is required (eg. you declare variables before using them) so as to why this file gives an error on the Option Explicit line is very strange.

Could it be the vbScript version you are running on the server?

If you install IE 5 or above on the server it will also update the vbScripting engine to version 5 which may sort out these errors you are getting.

Hi.  Thanx for the help - we ended up getting it working.  The client did some reading and modified the code a bit - I belive to not cache the content and it's working fine for him.
BTW, it's running IE6.0 already.

I'll post an update when I know exactly what he did so that maybe someone else can solve the same problem in the future.  That is - if this isn't the very last NT4 server still running on the planet.  :)
