Is there any way a user can rate a post, by clicking on a voting link or something?
 
If not, what is the best way to get this added?  (i.e.  code it myself, pay someone, plead and beg, etc...)
 
If the answer is, code it myself, is there source code available for Web Wiz Forums?

This functionality is not built in, there's two ways you can go about getting it...

  • Plead/beg/grovel in the mods forum to see if anyone will create it
  • Beg the developer to include it as a feature in version 9

I'd love to see this feature built in to ver 9

I wouldn;t want such feature to be included in a forum application. It's not an article manager, it's a forum.
But if Web Wiz could create an article manager application then that feature would be essential.

I see where your coming from but in order to keep up with other forum releases it's a good idea, it's becoming the norm to include such things into forum software and where i'm normally more than happy to 'buck the trend' it makes better buisness sense to include the feature.

A couple of us are in early development on making a points mod and one of the features being considered would be the ability to rate posts in order to give additional points.

The benefit of adding the rating system is that you get people to put more thought into their posts if they know they are going to be rewarded for it.  If people provide better information then others are going to come to regard you forum as being of better quality then others.
