I have a question regarding your favorite dedicated email server.

I've been having a hell of a time with spam on more than 100 domains. Some of my customers are getting really frustrated and one account is for a large group of Christian church women so they are pretty sensitive.

I've been asking around for advice on the best email server software. Since I will likely be purchasing Helm this year, I would like your opinions on the following...

  • SmarterMail Pro and Enterprise v3
  • MailEnable Pro and Enterprise
  • iMail 8 and 2006 (Very Expensive)
  • Merak Mail (fairly Expensive)
  • MDaemon
  • hMail Server (Free with Squirrel webmail )

I want ...

1) Easy to set up (duh)
2) Easy to configure domains and accounts
3) Administrator level spam filtering tools
4) Admin level rules at the server level and domain level.
5) domain level filtering tools
6) User level filtering tools as well as rules and auto fwd/response
7) server level (not domain level) license

I use MailEnable Enterprise which has user configurable filters that each user can setup for their mailbox using the webmail service that you also get with it.

It also has a Bayesian spam filter built in which you can train to catch spam specific to your servers users. It does work really well, but can use quite allot of memory, so make sure you have enough RAM. You can also configure it to delete spam or prefix it with something like **SPAM** as users often get upset if you have an email deleted which is incorrectly detected as spam.
