Which is better for WWF, SQL 2000 or 2005?

I am running WWF on an SQL 2000 DB. If I were to migrate to SQL 2005 will it run any different? What are the pros and cons? Will I have to recode at all?

WWF does not take direct advantage of SQL Server 2005 as far as I know so it will not run much different short of the performance/security improvements of sql2k5

But are there any issues running it on 2005?

Also, to run on 2005, do I have to use a 2005 version of wwf? Or, can I just migrate to 2005 without any changes to my wwf files?

Web Wiz Forums will run fine on SQL Server 2005 without any modifications.

The only problem you may have is with the Import/Export tools in SQL 2005 don't carry across defualt values.

What you need to do to upgrade a SQL Sever 2000 database to 2005 is detach the database from SQL Server 2000 then move the files across to SQL 2005 and attched them to the SQL Server 2005. You can then change the database properties to verion 9 (2005).

I just wish Microsoft would sortout their import/export tools but apparently it doesn't copy default values becuase of some sort of compatibility issue between 2000 and 2005

How do I change he database properties to verion 9 (2005)? Is this a file I download somewhere?

No, it's quite simple once the database is attached to SQL Server 2005 open the database in SQL Server Studio Manager, Right Click and choose 'Properties' for the database, and under 'Options' you will find 'Compatibility Level' you can change this to SQL Server 2005 (90)

Also you should check the option just above this and make sure that the recovery model for the database is set to 'Simple' otherwise your database will quickly become overly large.

We have done exactly what you said except for one thing. The the 'Compatibility Level' field, it shows SQL Server 2000 and the field is disabled. That means I cannot change it to SQL server 2005 as the field is disabled without giving option to change it.

The forum is running OK but I am concerned about the above. Can you suggest anything? Thanks.

Please disregard this, my hosting company was able to do wht you suggested.

The forum seems to be running faster. Is this just my imagination?
