Topic: How can I delete old topics? Posted: 24 March 2008 at 7:48pm |
Hi. Im trying to delete old topics from admin section but itsnot working. For example I want to delete topics that older than 1 year and i click the button and im giving this error; Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0113'
Script timed out
/forum/delete_topic.asp
The maximum amount of time for a script to
execute was exceeded. You can change this limit by specifying a new
value for the property Server.ScriptTimeout or by changing the value in
the IIS administration tools.
How can i do that? How can i delete old topics?

Just keep trying, or change the amount of posts that you are trying to delete (the more you try to delete, the longer it will take and the the more likely you will get a time out)

If you have already deleted topics not posted in in 2 years, there will be nothing to delete in the 1 year option.............because you have already deleted them !

Yep, I'm wrong Sorry. Back to the original question.........When I try to delete too many posts I get a timeout like you had. This is hard to explain - A lot of posts have been deleted when I get a timeout, because when I manage to delete without a timeout there are a lot less posts gone than there should be. Somewhere in the Mods forum there is a Mod to alter the amount of posts you can delete - ie: I can delete down to 1 day. I find I have to work my way down to avoid timeout, like delete from 2 weeks, then 10 days, then 1 week, then 3 days etc.

I really haven't heard of this problem, but I would guess that it would be better to delete topics that have not been posted in for at least six months perhaps
Maybe the software is trying to locate topics in a "period" that doesn't even exist
