Topic: Icons not displayed on Forum Admin Posted: 28 May 2008 at 7:41pm |
Each time I log on to the admin section and select forum admin, the icons for subforum, lock & delete may or may not be displayed on some forums... it is totally random as to which icons show and which ones are not visable.
If I close out of the screen and go back into forum admin, sometimes it displays all of the icons again... but sometimes it doesn't.
Is this a known bug? Has this happened to anyone else?

Have you upgraded your account to the "administrator" level, or are logging in as the "Administrator"?
The best practice is to have the single default "Administrator" account and log in as that when you need to make changes - don't upgrade any other account to admin level - moderator level should be enough. Click the clear cookies link at the bottom of the screen to ensure you've completly logged out.

I'm logging in as the system default administrator. I had another assisgned admin level, but I have changed that now... and it is still happening.
I cleared the cookies several times and have tested again, and it happened again.

Are they not displaying at all or are they red crosses? Try CTRL-F5 as this forces a refresh to be sent from the web server (F5 by itself can use local cached information).

they don't show up AT ALL.
refresh brought them back again.
When I logged in as admin, all the icons were available for all the forums. I edited one forum and went back to the administer forums home page... 12 of the forums did not have icons displayed for lock, delete or sub forum. The rest did. Refresh brought all the icons back.

Sounds like you maybe using IE 6 or below.
In the main forum frontend if you use IE 6 or below the forum degrades and uses GIF images instead of the nicer PNG's used for other browsers.
However, in the admin area it always shows PNG's, which unfortunately Microsoft took 15 years to add support for PNG's to IE so they can sometime course problems. However, these are only used in the admin area for IE 6- so will not effect other users.
You may also want to try your forum in IE 7, Firefox, or Opera as you will see much nicer PNG images used in the frontend. You will also get some extra parts like drop downs for page links which do not work for IE 6 and below users.

THANKS! That must have been it! I tested it out on Firefox and all is well!
I'm very impressed with the support on this board! I can only hope to have this level of support on the community I am building!
Thanks again!
