Hi

I am looking for anyone who can help me solve a major problem with IIS.

My os is XP Pro 64bit, and I have loaded IIS from the installation disk without any problems. However, when I type in localhost or 127.0.0.1, I am either getting page not found, or page under construction.

Now, I have tried reinstalling IIS a number of times, but without success. So, has anyone come across this problem before and manage to solve it?

Cheers

"page under construction" is a good sign... it means IIS works and is preseneting you with a generic page. What page were you expecting to get?

If you have NOT selected ASP when you installed IIS then the normal IIS start page would not come up...

Go to the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot directory and create a test file, like an HTML file... then in your browser type http://localhost/file_name.html

Is that test file viewable?

Hi

ASP was selected, and yes when I type in localhost/iisstart.asp is where I am seeing 403. Therefore, what I was expecting to see is the Microsoft Start page saying your web server is running and the iis help page.

If I set up a virtual directory I can see static html, but if I do not set up a virtual page - error messages are returned - page under construction or page not found.

Are you able to help me, please?

Read through this page and try the solutions that people suggested throughout the discussion: http://forums.iis.net/t/1151115.aspx
