    Posted: 22 July 2009 at 9:09pm
I've been asked by several of my users if they could filter a particular user's posts. I'm aware of the "buddy list" and that they can block PM's.

I'd like to request that the buddy list be extended to allow filtering of ALL messages from a buddy.

Thank you

Filter posts for specific words you mean? I believe this is already in place for both, PM's and regular posts.

No, not specific words. Here's the scenario with the names changed to protect the not-guilty:

User "Bob" is disgusted with user "Frank" and all his complaining he does on-line.
Bob doesn't ever want to read another of Frank's posts.
Bob wants to see threads without any of Frank's replies.

With all due respect, if it's really that bad then the person who's being offended should not come online at all.

I personally think that such a feature is not worth implementing because it is not practical. In such situations, moderators/admins are there to help suspend members, ban them, do anything to prevent those offensive users from posting.

You can't just tell users yes this can be done, everytime they ask for something like that.

I'm just sharing my opinion with you as a webmaster... I hope you don't take it negatively Smile

As ISec says this is where "Moderation" and Administrators step in, and they could:
1. Write to Frank via PM and advise him politely that he has to curb his complaining
2. Write to Bob via PM and try to establish what the real problem is (as Bob could be just over-critical anyway)
3. Decide who is in the wrong (if either) and then have to make a tough decision as to either banning a member, or banning both, to protect the harmony of the forum overall

Welcome to the world of forums and people Wink where human beings are not always that black and white so to speak. Good luck

At least in this country (USA), the bill of rights says nothing about a right to not be offended or not see things you don't like.
That was given us many years ago at the dawn of the being of humans - personal choice, or the freedom to choose - freedom to listen - or not, freedom to see, or not.
If need be, I can choose to not read someone's posts. I can choose not to look at a picture or sign I don't like.
We DO have the freedom of speech.......... with certain restrictions such as shouting "FIRE!" in a crowded theater for example. I have the freedom to not read or not listen when someone exercises their right to free speech.
And if I'm so easily offended, well, sorry - that's part of what's wrong in the world today, but that's a DIFFERENT topic................ Just means my mother raised me a bit on the weak side, and not strong enough to deal with things I don't like.

Webmasters, admins and moderators are there to help keep the peace, and if someone gets out of hand or there's more than one single complaint, then we deal with it. If it's just one complaint, we explain that they need thicker skin and the other person isn't making enough ruckus to bother with - if we have multiple complaints, we deal with it.

Just my opinions and thoughts!
