Hi,

I just did a windows update on Server 2008, and the WWG 10.03 SQL Server 2008 version forums reverted back to the free version.

I had to reapply the keys for the forums.

Do you know what could have possibly happened with the latest Windows Update and reboot? The forum lost all custom graphics, features, etc. Luckily putting the registration keys back in made the forums come back to the original look and style.

I want to see if there is anything to prevent this from occuring again.

Did Microsoft apply some update that would make SQL Server to change all the forum registration keys (or the way they were read)?

It sounds like the SQL Server service did not start up in a timely manner and so did not return the configuration data when the forum started up and so no configuration data was loaded in to memory for your forum.

I have seen this only a couple of times before, but as it is very rare it's been impossible to reproduce in the lab in order to find a way that the forum can auto-reload data if this happens.

If it happens again either update a configuration page in the admin area, which will force the reloading of the forums configuration data, or add ?reload=1 to the home page of your forum.

Thanks for the tips Bruce. It is obviously SQL Server in some way. But if it is so rare, than that is good to know.
