Is there a mod like in other softwares where a poster has to have posted a certain amount of times to be able to send PMs, so to stop people from signing up and spamming ads to members even though they are on zero post count?

The best way to do this is to create a starting group for those with less than 10 posts and disable Private Messages for this group.

New members would then need to post 10 posts before they can send or received Private Messages.

It is recommend that you also turn off links, and signatures for this starting group to reduce the impact of link spammers in your forum.

Bruce, this method is proving to be the ultimate defense mechanism against spammers. I no longer have to manually activate newly-registered members... they activate their own accounts using the activation email. At the same time, they have to earn 10 points before they can move up to the next ladder group... which gives me, the forum admin/moderator, enough time to catch potential spammers before their spam links could work. Thank you!!!!!
