Topic: Multiple Voting, when there shouldn’t be. Posted: 25 May 2003 at 12:36pm |
Ok, i'll be short and brief
- Makes no sense to make multiple voting polls, why would any1 do that ????
- The no Multiple Voting is implemented, but, DOESN'T WORK
I don't mind the "Allow Multiple Voting" stays on, as long as the "No Multiple Voting works as it should", cause at the moment, it doesn't... u only have to clear your cookies and/or change IP address... this is the same as "Allow Multiple Voting".... sucks

I agree with Supremo........
Borg i wrote a mod that sets an expiration date on the polls when the poll is made (set by the poll posted from 1 to 4 weeks), the 1-4 weeks can be changed by editing the HTML on the form... then when an user votes if allow multiples votes is off the votes are stored in the database so the user can't vote again........ once the poll has expired the votes are deleted from the db either automatically or the admin can delete them manually by clicking on a link (it can be set to automatically or manually on the admin section).....
It won't be an issue on performance as the votes will only be stored in the db for no longer than 4 weeks so it won't make the db grow too big... also if the poll is deleted before it has expired the votes will also be deleted from the db.....
It was fairly simple to do and it doesn't affect performance, so maybe you could implement this on the forums....

Since it requires a DB change if implemented, it woud wait until the next major release. -borg- tries not to change the database in minor releases.

it sucks having to re do the same modifications everytime a minor release is released.........specially when the release isn't so minor, i think about every file on the forums is changed o v7.02

Well if you have the board the way you want it, why not stick with it until the next release that you absolutely must have?

All true...
Anyways, thx for your support guys, even tough it implies a DB change, i still think Borg should consider this, cause... the way it is now... it's an illusion

IP address are not used to prevent multiple voting, so cleaning out your cookies and changing your IP won't owrk.
To prevent multiple voting it goes on the users ID combined with a cookie.
