forum loads so **SLOW**

Forum members,

  I am running Web Wiz Forums release v6.34 (MS Access Verison) at http://forum.cyscoexpert.com.  The forum is loading RIDICULOUSLY slow.  Sometime I get an error like this:

error 'ASP 0113'

Script timed out

/default.asp

The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can change this limit by specifying a new value for the property Server.ScriptTimeOut or by changing the value in the IIS administration tools.

Could this be a problem with the forum software, or most likely a problem with the server it is hosted on?  Any input would be greatly appreciated.

What Bruce says is true, it loaded very quickly for me.

However, you have got a bigger problem, your database can be downloaded and thus people can access all your passwords.

I do not think that your 94 members you to too pleased if they found out that their passwords and email address's were insecure!

Read the documentation on how to move and rename the database.  If possible put it in a private folder or even better upgrade to the new version of the forum which has 168bit encryption of all passwords!

The database file is located at:

From here it can be downloaded and all passwords can be accessed. For higher security you should at the very least rename the forum database and if possible move the location of the database to a folder above the root directory of your web site where it can not be accessed using a web browser, good web hosts will have a directory set up for this usually called private.

Do the following to secure you database:-

1. Locate the file wwForum.mdb found in the database directory in the admin directory (this is the forums access database).
   
   
2. Rename and/or move the location of this file on your web space.
   
   
3. Edit the two files called common.asp with a text editor like notepad. One common.asp file is with the main files and the other should be in a directory called admin.
   
   
4. In these two files you will find the following line of code: -
   
   strDbPathAndName = Server.MapPath("admin/database/wwForum.mdb")
   
   
5. Change the part marked in blue (admin/database/), to the new path to the database relative to the common.asp file you are editing, if you are editing the common.asp file from the admin section you will have,database/ written in front of the database name, don't worry, just change this to the path to the database relative to the common.asp file.
   
   
6. Change the part marked in red (wwForum.mdb), to the new name of the Forum's Access database.
   
   
7. Save the amended files.
