    Posted: 11 July 2003 at 1:18pm

I have just setup my PC so that I can have two login user accounts - one for me and one for the kids! The problem is, by mistake I have made both accounts the basic ones and deleted the admin one - so now I cannot change any settings or delete anything else! Is there a way I can reset everything! Please help - Thanks

Nathan

Go in under Safe mode, you should be able to figure it out from there.

The Boss. Well It seems that you can change the 'master' account into a standard one (restricted). I have tried to change the setting back, but when I look at the 'Users accounts' part - for administering the accounds, I can only see one account - the current one. I also have no powers to upgrade the accoun t or create a new one. I will try as Tyson recommends - in safe mode and report back. Cheers.

Pretty sure you can't delete the administrator, or leave no accounts with full rights.

What logon screen are you using? The new XP one won't show all accounts, so if you change back to the classic logon screen you can enter the 'administrator' logon and password.

Cheers,
Andrew

you can also press "ctrl-alt-del" at the user selection / login screen, there will appear a windows prompting for user name and password...

User name would be... "Administrator" or "Administrador" (my case because my winxp is in Spanish...

Password will be blank unless you typed a special password during install...
