I unzip and put the forum folder in my server as instructed.

It ruan beautifully. I login as administrator and make some initial setup, change admin username and pwd.  Logout, register few new users, make some posts, log all out,  Browse other site.  Back to my forum, No problem. Every user still can log in including the administrator (as expected)

But When I shut down the server then on again, the forum CRASH ! It shows, but can not do anything, cannot login, can not register !!!

When I login I got this error message:

=====

  • Error Type:
    Microsoft JET Database Engine (0x80004005)
    Operation must use an updateable query.
    /old/forum1/common.asp, line 403

  • Browser Type:
    Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows NT 5.0; .NET CLR 1.0.3705)

  • Page:
    GET /old/forum1/Default.asp
  • ===

    I'm running windows 2000 professional sevice pack 4 with IIS

    my test site is: http://nguoiviet.no-ip.info/old/forum1

    It looks to me like I need update something

    PS: If I did not turn of the server or reboot the server then the forum runs perfectly

    If you had read the documentation that comes with the forum or searched this site or Google then you would know that this is a permissions problem. You will need to give write permissions to the folder containing the database.

    Thanks for your reply.

    But the folder of my Dbase WAS already grant FULL access (Read, write and other stuffs) to: administrator, everyone and system.

    As I described: If I did not reboot the system, then all info and data to the data base were saved (member register, posts ...) I check the database and see that it is updated.

    Only when I reboot the server, then I got that problem. I'm running win 2000 professional, with IIS

    I think I need to update some SQLserver stuffs (?)

    If you're running MSSQL, make sure it's started and that you're using the right connection string.

    Lead me not into temptation... I know the short cut, follow me.

    It's not everyone you need to grant the permissions for, this is why you are probably getting the update error.

    You need to grant full access to the IUSR account on the directory containing the access database and the database.

    To Dpyers: Your reply makes me download MySQL and isntall to my server (I'm using win2000 pro only).

    To  boRg: I follow your instruction to grant the full access to IUSR acct instead of everyone

    I then reboot my system: my FORUM WORKS.

    THanks to all of you, my forum always "died" when I reboot, so, I dare not reboot it, and that was why I did as both of you told me (MySQL and IUSR acct). Now it works and really don't know which really causes.

    Once again, thanks for all, I'm happy man now.

    The fourm doesn't support mySQL only Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL server version 7 and 2000.

    mySQL and MS SQL server are two different products.

    hi boRg

    I installed "mySQL-4.0.15-win" and now I know that it is different than MS SQL ! So my forum works for the reason of reset full access to my IUSR acct.

    Thanks so much, bottom line is my forum is working. I'm happy now
